Adventures with Kathleen and Michele - Titicaca, Arequipa, Colca, and more!

OK, much to post but so little time... so I will just have to give you the bullet points of the past few weeks.  First off, I am oh so happy to have Kathleen and Michele with me here in beautiful Peru.   We have been having a blast.  Traveling is so much better with friends!

In the backcountry of Cusco, only a short hike away from my apartment!

I had to post this picture because it might be the most bizarre picture I have ever taken.  What is going on... .?

After few nights in Cusco, we decided to go on a spontaneous trip to Lake Titicaca. We took an 8 hour bus ride leaving Cusco at 6 am arriving in Puno at 5 pm with plenty of tourist stops along the way.  Our tour guide was the least excited to be there but the drive was beautiful.

Las Rayas. The highest point on the drive between Cusco and Puno. Whatever the equivalent of meters to feet is.. you get the picture!

We didn't care for the town of Puno but the lake seemed almost surreal.  Titicaca is the tallest lake in the world!  12,500 ft above sea level!  We got on the lake at 7 am to begin our tour to the famous floating Uros Islands. Pretty chilly but we could hardly care - it was so pretty!

Then we went to Tilika Island.  We felt like we were on the Mediterranean! We were very excited about our merchandise with "titicaca" on them.

After Titicaca, we decided to go to Arequipa.  We took a 6 am bus and arrived in Arequipa at noon.  Another beautiful drive.  So many fields of llamas and alpacas.  Wish we could have stopped so I could take pictures!

We thought Arequipa was beautiful! And it was the perfect place to watch the World Cup final game!  Our favorite was the Santa Catalina Monastery.  It was absolutely gorgeous.  My future dream home will be inspired by old monasteries - I've decided!

Next stop: Colca Canyon. We departed at the ungodly hour of 3 am.  I couldn't find my happy face anywhere.. really though. Apparently this is deepest canyon in the world.. they say.  We arrived at the Canyon around 7 am.  I was cold and pouty but seeing the condors (largest flying bird in the world) was pretty incredible, I admit.  Then we went to some natural hot springs where neither of us had appropriate swimwear, therefore, no pictures were taken (except one). Text me if you want to see a picture of Kathleen and Michele in RENTED boy swimsuits with netting in them.  I'd be happy to share the joy.
